Jobs Not Gangs

Rev. Gregory Boyle, S.J., spoke today at Saint Peter's College as part of the College's Ignatian Heritage Week. Fr. Boyle's ministry is to run the largest gang intervention program in the United States. He founded Homeboy Industries, when it became clear to him that he could not help young people leave the gang lifestyle without offering them something to bring hope for their future. With much difficulty securing employment for gang members, many of whom were not considered worth hiring because of prison records, Fr. Boyle realized that employment would have to come from a non-traditional source. This Q&A from the Jersey City Independent is a great introduction to Fr. Boyle's work.
