WSPC Radio Wins Awards

Congratulations to WSPC Radio for taking home two awards this past weekend from the 70th Annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) Radio and Webcasting Conference at the Hotel Pennsylvania in New York City. WSPC Radio, among a handful of other college radio stations, received the highest level of the Golden Mic Award for broadcast excellence. The award is given based on an expert review utilizing professional standards for content and operations. In addition, there were 27 trophies awarded in categories as diverse as news, music shows, sports, public affairs, on-air personality, talk programs, promotions, fundraising/underwriting campaign and many more. WSPC Radio took home the Best Talk Program award.

The IBS conference featured more than 250 speakers and moderators in over 100 workshops and panel sessions featuring topics such as programming, production, a variety of music genres, aircheck critiques, advertising and commercials, voice-overs, community radio, promotions, social networking and college radio and scores more. In addition there were sessions featuring broadcasting professionals Dr. Joy Browne of WOR Radio in NY, radio guru and consultant Valerie Geller, the legendary Joey Reynolds of WOR Radio, WCBS-FM's Broadway Bill Lee, A&E's Lynn Hoffman, WPLJ's Race Taylor, on-air personalities from Q 104.3 NYC and many others.

WSPC Radio-TV General Manager and Adjunct Professor Joe Lamachia was invited by IBS Chairman Len Mailloux to moderate four panels on broadcast production, broadcast writing, commercials and advertising, and playing in the voice-over game.

Considering the competition from more than 1,000 IBS member radio stations, WSPC Radio enjoyed a very successful IBS National Conference.
