A Jesuit Formation in the Crucible of War

Rev. John Ruane, S.J., a retired professor who graduated from Saint Peter's Prep and taught at Saint Peter's College, was recently profiled in honor of his 90th birthday. The article, "A Jesuit Formation in the Crucible of War," takes a fascinating turn through the historical events that Fr. Ruane experienced. Peter Feuerherd, author of the article, describes Fr. Ruane's experience living in the Philippines during World War II, when he and nearly 2,000 others including many members of Catholic religious orders, were interred at a college near Manila until a surprise liberation came on February 23, 1945.
